Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/18/22): Sampson Pitching, Madrigal Leading Off, Reyes DH
The Chicago Cubs play a makeup game with the Baltimore Orioles today for a game from June 8 that was postponed. It’s somewhat convenient because the team was already in Washington DC playing the Nationals which is very close to Baltimore. The Cubs lost the first game of that two-game series and have lost all three games this season against the Orioles, who are currently just 1.5 games out of the American League Wild Card.
Adrian Sampson (0-3, 3.88 ERA) will take the hill for the Cubs today, looking to continue to build off a season that’s been pretty solid so far. With a low-90s 4-seamer, Sampson isn’t overpowering but he does hit his spots. He also has a pretty solid pitch mix — the 4-seam, a sinker, slider, change-up, and cutter — that keeps batters off balance.
Nick Madrigal is batting leadoff playing second, Willson Contreras is catching, Ian Happ is in left, Franmil Reyes is DH, and Nico Hoerner is at short. Nelson Velazquez is in right, P.J. Higgins in at first, Zach McKinstry is at third, and Christopher Morel is in center.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm CT from Baltimore.
