RHP Javier Assad Will Be Promoted for Tuesday Start
Contrary to an earlier report, neither Caleb Kilian nor Hayden Wesneski will be called up to make a start against the Cardinals. Instead, righty Javier Assad will be promoted to take the bump in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. The 25-year-old Assad has a 2.66 ERA over 23 games (21 starts) between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa.

His performance at Iowa has included 37 strikeouts with just seven walks over 36.2 innings and he last started on August 18 against Indianapolis. Assad is not on the 40-man roster, so there will need to be a move on that front. This is a little bit curious given the roster crunch and presence of those other pitchers down in Iowa, but this could be as much a matter of timing as anything else. Plus, Assad has been hot.
