Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/23/22, Game 2): Sampson Pitching, Morel at Third, Higgins Catching
The Chicago Cubs are looking to sweep the doubleheader after winning the first game earlier today thanks to a solid MLB debut by Javier Assad. In his first pro outing, Assad managed to shutout the Cardinals which is not an easy task.
Adrian Sampson (1-3, 3.51 ERA) will take the bump tonight for the Cubs. He’s been surprisingly good this season and recently pitched 5.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Orioles in Baltimore. His five-pitch mix is built on command and not velocity as much, which allows him to keep batters consistently off balance and guessing. Sampson’s HardHit% (% of batted balls hit 95 mph or higher) is second in MLB only to Julio Urias.
Nick Madrigal leads off playing second tonight, Ian Happ is in left, Seiya Suzuki is in right, Franmil Reyes is DH, and Nico Hoerner is at short. Patrick Wisdom is at first, P.J. Higgins is catching, Nelson Velazquez is in center, and Christopher Morel is at third.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CT tonight from beautiful and historic Wrigley Field.
