Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/24/22): Farrell Pitching, Contreras Sits For Third Straight Game
If the Cubs are going to win this series against the Cardinals they will need to win the next two games. That starts with the game tonight.
Luke Farrell is not likely to strike fear into the heart of any of the Cards’ batters, but he will take the mound tonight for the Cubs. Why it’s Farrell instead of either Hayden Wesneski or Caleb Kilian is anyone’s guess. Farrell has been pedestrian, at best, for Iowa this season with a 5.03 ERA, 49 Ks, and 28 BBs over 59.0 innings pitched.
Nick Madrigal leads off tonight playing second, Ian Happ is in left, Franmil Reyes is DH, Nico Hoerner is at short, and Patrick Wisdom is at first. Rafael Ortega is in center, Yan Gomes is catching, Nelson Velazquez is in right, and Zach McKinstry is at third.
What’s notable is that Willson Contreras is sitting again today, after not playing in either game of yesterday’s doubleheader. Contreras is reportedly dealing with a stiff left ankle, which also happens to be the ankle he twisted in the Field of Dreams game. The hope is it’s nothing serious and perhaps we’ll see him in a pinch-hitting role tonight. We’ll see.
After not playing in yesterday’s doubleheader because of a stiff left ankle, Willson Contreras is not in the #Cubs lineup tonight vs. Cardinals.
