Adbert Alzolay to Pitch Saturday for AAA Iowa

The Cubs got some good news on the pitching front as it was announced that Adbert Alzolay, who has been out all season with a lat issue, will pitch for Triple-A Iowa on Saturday. Alzolay had been working back into shape in Mesa and he’ll likely remain in a bullpen role for the time being in order to limit his innings. He may actually be best served as a reliever long-term, but we’ll have to wait and see on that.

Alzolay was initially supposed to work in something of a swing role last season before coming out of the gate hot as a starter and remaining in the rotation until September. Health has been an issue for him in the past and he went to the IL in mid-August after making 21 starts, then shoved in eight relief appearances over the last month of the season. His stuff just plays up so much out of the ‘pen.

If all goes well, we should see him in Chicago at some point in September.
