Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/28/22): Contreras Remains Out, Cubs Go for Series Win, Sampson Looks to Rebound
The Chicago Cubs are looking to win their sixth series in August, a month that’s seen them play very well and is currently their only winning month on the books this season. The Cubs need at least one more win to finish .500 or better for the month.
Adrian Sampson takes the hill for the Cubs today as he looks to rebound from his last start this past Tuesday when he got roughed up by the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up just three singles heading into the 4th inning and then fell apart. In that inning, Sampson allowed three runs to score on three singles and two home runs before being pulled with only one out. The Cardinals would go on to win the game 13-3.
Prior to Tuesday’s blowout loss, Sampson had the third lowest hard contact rate at 23.2%. After the disastrous 4th inning, he finds himself 10th in MLB with a 25.4% rate. Is Sampson reverting back to the mean or was Tuesday’s outing an outlier? We should get a better idea after today’s contest.
Nick Madrigal leads off today and plays second, Seiya Suzuki is in right, Ian Happ is in left, Franmil Reyes is DH, and Nico Hoerner is at short. Yan Gomes is catching, Zach McKinstry is at third, P.J. Higgins is at first, and Nelson Velázquez is in center.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm CT from Wrigley North in Milwaukee.
