Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/3/22): Smyly on Hill, Suzuki Batting Second, Contreras Still Out
The Chicago Cubs started September the exact same way they started August. They got shut out and completely dominated by the St. Louis Cardinals. The good news is that after Sunday the Cubs won’t play the Cardinals again this season. The bad news is that also means the season is nearly over.
Drew Smyly will toe the rubber tonight for the Cubs. He’s looking to build on an already successful season that’s seen him pitching like he did early in his career. His 3.24 ERA is lower than it’s been since 2015. He’s turned out to be a very nice surprise for the Cubs this year, unfortunately the Cubs haven’t returned the favor.
Nick Madrigal leads off tonight playing second, Seiya Suzuki is in right, Ian Happ is in left, Franmil Reyes is DH, and Nico Hoerner is at short. Rafael Ortega is in center, Yan Gomes is catching, Alfonso Rivas is at first, and Zach McKinstry is at third.
First pitch tonight is scheduled for 6:15pm CT from Busch Stadium.
