Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/12/22): Assad Pitching, Morel at Short, McKinstry Leading Off
The Cubs head to New York tonight to take on the Mets hoping to pick up their first series win in September. It’s been a bumpy ride lately, with the Cubs following a .500 record in August with a 2-7 record so far in September.
Javier Assad has pitched well since his call-up in late August, registering a 2.93 ERA over 15.1 innings pitched. His latest outing, against Cincinnati, didn’t go as well with Assad giving up four earned runs — including two home runs — over 5.1 innings. The hope there is that was simply an aberration and not a developing trend. The Mets have scored the 5th most runs in MLB so far this season, so tonight should be a good test for Assad.
Zach McKinstry is leading off and playing second, Seiya Suzuki is in right, Franmil Reyes is DH, Ian Happ is in left, and Patrick Wisdom is at third. Rafael Ortega is in center, P.J. Higgins is catching, Alfonso Rivas is at first, and Christopher Morel is at short.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm CT tonight from New York.
