Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (10/4/22): Reds 3, Cubs 2: Bullpen Falters in Cincinnati
The Cubs took an early lead thanks to home runs by Willson Contreras (here) and Nico Hoerner (here). The bullpen couldn’t hold the lead and the Cubs lose their second straight game.
Javier Assad pitched well, allowing only four hits in 5.1 innings. But Keegan Thompson was uncharacteristically wild, walking two and giving up a two-run home run to tie the game.
Brandon Hughes came on in the 9th and allowed a walk and a double to give the Reds the win. (Box score).
Bottom Line
There’s one more game left and it’s meaningless.
