Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/4/23): Cubs 2, Angels 0 – Pitching Keeps Rolling
The Cubs welcomed the Los Angeles Angels to Sloan Park on Saturday afternoon after Friday night’s no-hitter against the Padres. Chicago pitched well yet again and took home another shutout victory.
Jameson Taillon got the start for the Cubs and tossed three scoreless innings, displaying his new sweeping breaking ball to go with more traditional offerings. Nico Hoerner tripled in a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning and would come in to score on an Eric Hosmer single to produce all the scoring on the afternoon.
Those two runs were all Cubs pitchers needed need on Saturday. Six relievers followed Taillon and tore through the Angels lineup, which was missing Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, to get the W. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Won
Once again, the Cubs did not allow any runs. That makes it pretty easy to win baseball games.
Stats That Matter
- Taillon struck out four hitters and only allowed a single in his three innings of work.
- Keegan Thompson had a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th.
- Patrick Wisdom was back from groin soreness with a walk and a single.
Bottom Line
Another day, another set of impressive pitchers for the Cubs. The pitching depth is fast becoming the story of the spring.
