Seiya Suzuki’s Oblique ’10 of 10,’ Will Face Brandon Hughes in Sim Game Wednesday
Seiya Suzuki has made steady progress in recovering from a strained left oblique that kept him out of Cactus League action and he appears to be nearing a rehab assignment. David Ross said the right fielder’s health is a “10 out of 10” after getting four at-bats in a sim game in Mesa on Tuesday, allowing him to play the field in another sim game Wednesday.

Suzuki will face lefty reliever Brandon Hughes in today’s game, which is another really positive sign for the big league team. Hughes hadn’t looked particularly sharp in spring training and was placed on the IL with a knee issue, so getting a little rest should allow him to round into better form.
If all goes well on Wednesday, Suzuki will be sent out on a minor league rehab assignment in the near future. Hughes may be able to rejoin the big club without pitching for an affilite.
