Dave Roberts Confirms Shohei Ohtani Meeting to Reporters
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts either didn’t get the memo about secrecy or he’s simply compelled by a desire to be totally honest. Or perhaps he knows a deal is already done and there’s no need for all the cloak-and-dagger business. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Roberts confirmed that the Dodgers met with Shohei Ohtani “a couple days ago” and that the superstar is “clearly our top priority.”
As for going public when everyone else is going to lengths to cover their tracks, Roberts got right to the point.
“I don’t feel like lying is something I do,” he explained to Anthony Castrovince and others. “I was asked a question…It’s going to come out at some point.”
At the risk of getting too binary, I can’t help but think this means that the Dodgers are either the winner of the Ohtani sweepstakes or they’ve been told they’re out. And since the latter doesn’t seem like a real possibility, I’m going with Ohtani is a Dodger and all that’s left is the official announcement.
Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
