Cubs Release Carl Edwards Jr, Dominic Smith to Reduce Spring Roster to 34

The Cubs today reduced the spring roster from 36 to 34 players by releasing righty Carl Edwards Jr. and infielder Dominic Smith. Both had previously opted out of their minor league deals, so this is merely a procedural step.

Chicago’s spring roster of 34 players consists of 16 pitchers, four catchers (two non-roster invitees), seven infielders (one non-roster invitee), six outfielders (one non-roster invitee) and one infielder/outfielder.
