Cade Horton Coming to Chicago…for Further Evaluation of Lat Issue

It would normally be very exciting to hear that Cade Horton is coming to Chicago, but that is not the case. The top pitching prospect was scratched from Wednesday’s start with Triple-A Iowa and the initial report from Jesse Rogers was that back soreness was to blame. Whether that was just a matter of the organization being vague or a mistake in what was said/heard, the Cubs clarified Thursday that Horton had experienced lat soreness. That is a great deal less comforting.

Even less comforting is the fact that he’s scheduled to head to Chicago for further evaluation of that lat issue. While I’d love to hold onto hope that the team feels it might be nothing and they can just keep him there to bolster the pitching staff, I can’t help fearing it’s something that could end up shutting him down for at least a few weeks.
