The Cubs May Be Hosting All-Star Game in 2027
Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney joined 670 The Score during Cubs Convention and dropped an interesting note about the All-Star Game. Wrigley Field has hosted the Midsummer Classic three times, with the most recent coming in 1990. In the subsequent 35 years, some teams have had it more than once. Why does Major League Baseball keep avoiding Wrigley? The main reason is safety.
The ballpark is unique in its design, including the layout of the surrounding neighborhood. Most ballparks are in commercial areas with parking lots and broad streets all around rather than apartments and businesses. An argument could be made that this isn’t ideal for such a large crowd from around the country, but Wrigley didn’t have any serious issues with World Series games.
That said, Rob Manfred would like to see the Cubs make further upgrades to security in and around the ballpark before granting them a long-overdue shot at another All-Star Game. Seems simple enough.
“The commissioner has basically made it very obvious,” Kenney said. “Fix your security issue, and I’m going to award you an All-Star Game.”
This has been a recurring topic for several years now as Wrigley has been passed over time and again in favor or newer ballparks. With the next two years already booked, all eyes turn to 2027.
