Cubs Trade Cody Poteet to Orioles for Cash Considerations

The Cubs managed to free up a little more of Cody Bellinger‘s contract by trading former Yankees righty Cody Poteet to the Orioles. Poteet was the Cubs’ only return for Bellinger, allowing them to clear all but $5 million of the remaining money on the right fielder’s deal. This was never really about getting an impact player in return, hence the decision to designate Poteet for assignment to clear room for Brad Keller on the 40-man roster.

The Orioles announced Saturday that they have acquired Poteet for cash considerations, and he has since been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Neat.
