Cubs Roster Moves: Horton to IL, Martin Recalled, Roberts Serving as 27th Man
We covered Riley Martin‘s promotion yesterday, but the Cubs waited to make it official due to the game being rained out. See below for more.
The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Riley Martin from Triple-A Iowa. Martin will wear #51. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Cade Horton was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 4 (right forearm strain). Additionally, the team recalled right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts as the 27th man for today’s doubleheader at Cleveland.
Martin, 28, has made one start for Iowa this season, allowing one earned run and three hits in 3.0 innings of work while striking out three and walking two.
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Cubs out of Quincy University (Ill.), Martin is currently in his sixth professional season with the organization. He is 24-13 with a 3.76 ERA (118 ER/282.2 IP) in 174 appearances—three starts. He spent the entire 2025 season with Triple-A Iowa, going 6-2 with a 2.69 ERA (19 ER/63.2 IP) in 47 appearances (one start). His first appearance with the Cubs would be his major league debut.
