Chicago Cubs Lineup – Sept 27, 2016: Lackey Pitching, a Mix of Regulars & Reserves

John Lackey (10-8, 3.39 ERA) will be on the mound for the Chicago Cubs (100-56) tonight as he leads the charge towards 101 wins. For Lackey, he’s had an up and down year so far. A dominating start here, a stinker there. Although his been much sharper in the second half of the season, posting a 2.84 ERA mostly on the back of an ultra-low .223 BABIP. So yeah, the defense behind him has been stellar, as it has all year.

Joe Maddon is mixing regulars and reserves in the lineup quite nicely. Watching him put together a lineup this time of year makes me feel like I’m watching a mad baseball scientist at work. It’s intriguing.

Jason Heyward, Addison Russell and Kris Bryant all get the night off. In their places are Munenori Kawasaki at second base – Zobrist shifts out to left field, Tommy La Stella at third base and Javier Baez is in at shortstop. Even with those big bats sitting tonight this lineup still packs a punch and should be fun to watch.
