Breaking: Addison Russell Issues Brief Statement, Condemns Allegations as ‘False and Hurtful’

Addison Russell has issued a brief statement in the wake of allegations of infidelity and domestic violence that arose via Instagram last night. Released via the Cubs, it reads simply:

“Any allegation I have abused my wife is false and hurtful. For the well-being of my family, I’ll have no further comment.”

Russell is out of the lineup tonight, and, while it can be assumed that this situation may have weighed in that decision, his poor play has made days off more common over the last few weeks.

The Cubs have yet to issue a statement, but they have announced that Russell will not be in uniform tonight. It was stressed that this is not a suspension. GM Jed Hoyer is expected to join the Bernstein and Goff show at around 5pm CT. His initial slot was at 3pm, but was presumably bumped back in light of this matter.
