CI Recap (3/17/18) – Cubs 11, Indians 4: Quintana Dominates

Jose Quintana shut down a talented Indians lineup in Las Vegas Saturday. Meanwhile, the Cubs offense mashed from the 1st Inning on. (Box Score)

Why The Cubs Won

Scoring nine runs the first four innings will win you a lot of baseball games.

Key Moment

Addison Russell blasted a deep homer to left in the bottom of the 1st. The solo bomb put the Cubs ahead 2-0.

Stats That (Don’t) Matter

  • Jose Quintana was on fire: 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 8 K, and 0 BB. The only downside is that the game didn’t count.
  • Addison Russell had two singles as well as his homer. Not to jinx things, but this might be the year Addy breaks out.
  • Jacob Hannemann had two doubles and a home run, nice game for the Hawaiian outfielder.
  • Jason Heyward is heating up a bit with two hits Saturday.

Bottom Line

Jose Quintana demonstrated Saturday that he can be an ace. It’s an ability each of the Cubs’ top four starters possess.

On Deck

The Cubs split the squad again Sunday, playing Cleveland in Vegas and Kansas City in Mesa. Both games start at 3 pm CT. The Indians tilt airs on NBC Sports Chicago and 670 the Score while the Royals game is on MLB.tv.
