Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (Simulated Game 53): Brewers 7, Cubs 1 – Cubs Lose Game, Lester in Milwaukee

After an insane comeback win on Friday, the Cubs (34-19) taking a one-sided defeat from the Brewers (26-27) Saturday was a lot less painful than it could have been. Another loss Chicago suffered at Miller Park could be much more costly, however, as we learned Saturday via MLB The Show 20.

Starter Jon Lester unfortunately had to make a stop at the jerk store in the 2nd inning as former Cardinal Jedd Gyorko hit a solo homer to put the Brewers ahead. Lester pulled off a rare feat in the 3rd inning when he picked Lorenzo Cain off at first base, one of the game’s two Cubs highlights. The other came when Willson Contreras was able to tie things up when he blasted a long homer to left in the 4th.

The bottom of the 5th was where everything went wrong for the road side. Lester walked two batters in a row and it looked like something didn’t feel right. Manager David Ross and trainer PJ Mainville came out to talk to the lefty and took him out of the game with what the Cubs are saying was back discomfort.

Brandon Morrow took over from there and allowed a run-scoring single to Gyorko, then a back-breaking three-run double to catcher Manny Pina. Milwaukee would tack on a pair of runs the next two innings and win going away 7-1.

Notes: After the game Ross said Lester would go on the 10-day injured list with back stiffness. Nico Hoerner was thrown out at the plate in the 3rd inning by Christian Yelich while trying to score on a Kris Bryant single.
