Wrigley Field Increasing Capacity to 25% for Opening Day

After initially announcing that Wrigley Field would be able to host fans at 20% capacity when the regular season opens, the Cubs have been granted a small bump. The mayor’s office has approved an increase to 25%, so the Cubs now have an additional 2,000 tickets available for their first homestand starting April 1.

Though Chicago has seem surges in COVID numbers following St. Patrick’s Day revelry, it’s still expected that capacity will increase steadily throughout the summer months. According to a source, the Cubs are targeting 60% attendance at some point, though a specific date was not tied to that figure. Crane Kenney, the team’s president of business operations, had said they hoped to be operating at full capacity by the end of the season.
