Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/29/21): Davies Pitching, Happ in CF, Sogard at SS, Baez Playing DH in Cubs Cactus League Finale

The Chicago Cubs host the Arizona Diamondbacks today in their final spring tune-up before the regular season. This day is always bittersweet for me since I live in Arizona and go to most of the Cubs’ Cactus League games. On one hand, I’m sad I don’t get to see the Cubs as much. On the other hand, the regular season is a mere three days away.

Manager David Ross is starting a lineup of mostly regulars, except he’s thrown in a designated hitter to bat for starting pitcher Zach Davies. Davies has been in the National League his entire professional career so he’s had ample experience batting. And Ross probably wants to get Sogard some more time in the field.

Leading off for the Cubs is Ian Happ playing center, Willson Contreras bats second catching, followed by Anthony Rizzo at first, Kris Bryant at third, Joc Pederson in left, and Javier Baez at DH. Jason Heyward is batting seventh playing right, David Bote is at second, and Eric Sogard is batting ninth at short.

Davies will take the hill for the Cubs today in their Cactus League finale. He was recently named the Cubs’ third starter behind Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta, which was a little bit of a surprise but maybe not if you consider that Arrieta offers a logical change of pace in-between the two soft-tossers.

Davies has been red-hot this spring posting a 0.68 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 13.1 innings pitched. The next time we see him will be at Wrigley Field on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

First pitch is set for 2:05pm CT on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
