Cubs Prospect Josefrailin Alcántara Sought by Dominican Police After Reportedly Killing Friend
Well, this is pretty awful news. According to MLB Insider Héctor Gómez, Dominican National Police are searching for Cubs prospect Josefrailin Alcántara after he was accused of shooting Darwin Díaz Valerio to death this past Friday. The Cubs signed Alcántara as an international free agent in January 2022 with a $500,000 bonus, one of the largest in his class.

This is just an awful situation and we’ll try to update it as we learn more.
Update: According to a Tribune report, the Cubs had suspended Alcántara for a violation of team rules and have now released him.
“We were made aware of a death investigation involving one of our former minor-league players, who was away from the team due to a suspension and has been subsequently released following notification by authorities in the Dominican Republic,” read a statement from senior VP of communications Julian Green. “We cannot provide further comment until we have additional details.”
